Presented by workplace accessibility advocate Kaitlin Teore

Hello, I'm Kaitlin, and as a disabled working professional with several learning disabilities, I've spent my career navigating the corporate world since 2012. I understand the challenges young professionals face, especially when it comes to disclosing and seeking accommodations for disabilities.

In the past, I concealed my disability, fearing it might hinder my chances of being hired or limit growth opportunities. The dilemma of whether to request accommodations haunted me, unsure of the potential repercussions or if I could push through without them.

In contrast to the abundance of resources available in school, the post-graduation landscape lacks the same support. Most universities don't adequately prepare students for the professional world, leaving us without guidance on workplace accommodations, disclosure, and the associated nuances.

Discovering my passion for watching others grow and develop, I realized my love for teaching, training, and coaching—perhaps fueled by my own struggles to learn and fit in. Now, I aim to share my experiences and support young disabled professionals through the Accommodations Explained course.

This course, tailored for young professionals with disabilities, delves into everything you need to know about workplace accommodations:

  • Defining workplace accommodations

  • Understanding the purpose of accommodations

  • Distinguishing between reasonable and unreasonable accommodations

  • Decoding legal terms like 'Essential nature of a job' and 'undue burden'

  • Identifying when and why accommodations are necessary

  • Timing for requesting accommodations

  • Deciding what information to share

  • Preparing to request an accommodation

  • Discovering if and where you may need accommodations

  • Providing examples of accommodations and free resources to take with you

While this course is crafted specifically for young professionals with disabilities, it is equally valuable for HR professionals, managers, supervisors, and individuals in adult or university disability services.
